South of France 28-30April

We drove for three days across the South of France on our way to Italy. We stayed in Montpellier and visited lots of places in the Languedoc province - Uzes, Nimes, Arles, Avignon & the Pont du Gard. All the towns and cities have their own symbols and the one for Nimes is very interesting. It is a Nile crocodile standing under a palm tree and was adopted because the town was founded by retired veteran Roman soldiers of Caesar's victorious campaign in Egypt against Mark Antony & Cleopatra. Nimes is also the birthplace of denim ('of Nimes'). Uzes is now a small town but was the first Duchy in the world and has many old beautiful buildings. We stayed in Nice for a night before going on to Genoa in Italy. There was lots of rain & traffic jams in all the towns on our last day in France so it wasn't much fun.
